Our target

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the whole site. Accessibility is treated as part of the build, not a retrofit: every page is written with semantic landmarks, and every component is checked with a keyboard before it ships.

What we have built in

  • Semantic HTML landmarks and a skip-to-content link on every page.
  • Full keyboard operability, including the navigation menu, search overlay and image gallery.
  • Visible focus indicators that meet contrast requirements.
  • Alt text on every meaningful image, with decorative images marked as such.
  • Body text that meets AA contrast against its background, and text that reflows without loss at 200 percent zoom.
  • Respect for the operating system reduced-motion setting — all animation is disabled when it is enabled.
  • Touch targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels on interactive controls.

Known limitations

Some of our older photographs show fine woven textures that are difficult to describe precisely in alt text. Where a texture matters to understanding the content, we describe it in the surrounding prose instead.
