This fish is woven flat rather than stuffed, which is what gives it its lightness. Hung near a window or an open door, it turns gently in the draught and the open weave lets light through the body.
Woven flat and open
The body is a simple over-under panel, shaped by adding and dropping strips at the head and tail. The tail is left uncut so its natural fronds fan out into a fin. Because the piece is flat, it is quick to make and easy to store between seasons.
