Most deep baskets sag at the rim once they carry weight. This one does not, because the top three rows are woven tighter than the body and the rim is doubled back on itself. It is the basket we keep beside the sofa for blankets and it takes the abuse well.
The handles
The handles are hand-twisted cotton cord, not glued-on loops. Each end is spliced through two layers of weave and knotted inside, so the pull is spread across the wall instead of a single point. Lift a full basket and nothing stretches.

This is a dry-goods basket. Do not use it for damp laundry, because prolonged moisture will soften the leaf and stain the rope.
