Large baskets have a problem: the bigger they get, the heavier the weave becomes. We solve it by using wider strips and a more open pattern on this one, so a full basket of laundry still weighs little more than the clothes inside it.
The rolled rim
The top edge is rolled rather than folded flat. It takes longer to finish, but it gives you a rounded edge to rest against your side and it hides the strip ends twice over, which is where a basket of this size would otherwise start to unravel.

Always move damp washing straight to the machine. This basket is woven for dry or lightly damp laundry, not for soaking wet loads.
A laundry basket should be the lightest thing in the room, not the heaviest.
Woven from wider, stronger leaflets, this is the most labour-intensive basket we make. Each one takes a full afternoon and a half.
