This hat is woven in a summer tradition that predates sun cream. The pattern is deliberately open, so heat escapes through the crown instead of building up under it, and the brim is broad enough to shade your whole face.
Weaving the crown and brim
Work starts at the crown and spirals outward. At the point where the crown becomes the brim, we change the angle of the weave so the brim flares and then holds its shape. The brim is the slow part: it is wide, and every row has to stay flat.

- Gardening on a hot afternoon
- Beach and garden days
- Harvest markets and festivals
- A practical gift for a gardener
Sold out for the season. Fresh leaves are at their best in the warmer months, so we weave this hat in small summer batches and reopen orders next spring.
A good hat does not fight the sun. It simply lets the air do its work.
